Veterans Day 2023: See Resources for Southern Colorado’s Veterans Here

For some, this weekend is all about saying “thank you” to a loved one, family member, or close friend who’s served in the military. For others, it’s a day of reflection about those who protect our way of life. And for more, it’s a day to re-focus on supporting our local veterans across Southern Colorado!

When you listen to 98.9 Magic FM this weekend, you’ll hear the voices of people who help make these services possible. At least once per hour, we’re showcasing a program, organization, or person that provides proof that help is out there for those who have served our country!

If you or a loved one served our country and is struggling with the transition back to civilian life, these are some of the resources that we’re highlighting this weekend on 98.9 Magic FM.

Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center

One of the leading resources in the Pike’s Peak region for veterans, Mt. Carmel offers programs in behavioral health, career transition, and immediate-need situations for veterans and their families. Over the course of the weekend, we’ve collected sound bytes from personnel such as Army Col. (Ret) Bob McLaughlin, the Executive Director at the Mt. Carmel VSO, Director of Behavioral Health Damian McCabe from UCHealth, which is partnered with Mt. Carmel in the “Next Chapter” program, and even 1st Sgt. (Ret) Glen Cooper, who both benefitted from, and now works for, the VSO!

Pike’s Peak State College

After leaving the military, many veterans want to continue their education and gain new skills in an environment that understands their life’s story. We spoke with several people at PPSC, including the Army Col. (Ret) Paul DeCecco, who’s now Director of the Military & Veterans’ Programs there. Air Force Lt. Col Chris Kean, PhD also spoke with us about his role as Operations Manager for Military & Veterans’ Programs, and the Art Director at PPSC’s Gallery at Studio West, Madeline Zeikus, MA, also told us about their exciting Veterans’ Voices art gallery display, which is open now for a few weeks in November.
