Taylor Swift will add a new milestone to her career at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. Organizers announced Monday that the singer-songwriter will receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors during the ceremony on September 27 in Los Angeles.
The newly created award recognizes music artists whose work behind the camera has helped advance music videos and visual storytelling. The announcement highlights Swift’s growing role as a director, a part of her career that has expanded considerably over the past several years.
Swift made her solo music video directorial debut with The Man in 2020. Her directing credits have since grown to include All Too Well: The Short Film, Anti-Hero, Bejeweled, Lavender Haze, Fortnight, The Fate of Ophelia and Opalite.
She has earned seven VMA nominations for Best Direction and won the category four times.
The honor will also bring Swift’s career total to 31 VMAs, moving her ahead of Beyoncé as the artist with the most awards in the ceremony’s history.
