Phil Collins has opened up about his recovery from alcohol addiction, saying he has now been sober for three years. During a recent interview, the former Genesis singer and drummer reflected on a difficult period when drinking became part of his daily life and contributed to serious health problems.
Collins said his condition eventually became severe enough to require hospital treatment. He described suffering organ failure and reaching a point where his family was called while he was receiving intensive medical care.
The 75-year-old musician has also faced several other health challenges in recent years. He continues to deal with mobility problems, including drop foot, and uses crutches to help prevent falls. Collins said multiple operations and ongoing physiotherapy have helped improve his overall condition.
Music remains part of his life as well. Although he has stepped away from regular performing, Collins still has a studio at home and has both unfinished and completed material. For now, his comments offer a rare update on his health, sobriety and connection to music.
